George and Sally's Blue Moon diner at the Gilmore Car Museum

The Gilmore Car museum holds an array of amazing automobiles like Pierce Arrow, Cadillac, Model A’s and even a rare Tucker, but they also offer a fun dining experience. While visiting the museum, I wrestled up a booth and ordered a tuna salad sandwich, and a coke in an old fashioned coke bottle inside the 1941diner that was George and Sally’s Blue Moon Silk city diner.

Moved to the museum and restored in 2004,the diner offers food, shakes and dessert served either at the retro booths and old fashioned counter. This was a great blast from the past and a place to get out of the heat and cool down with a chocolate Sunday for me and a Root Beer float for the hubby!

The rural setting of the Gilmore museum is like a well planned out farm operation that raises instead of livestock, cars! The site includes eight historic barns, a re-created 1930s service station, a small town train station, and nearly three miles of paved roads. The museum is open year round with some buildings and exhibits closed between December and March. They are open every day from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The museum is located at 6865 Hickory Rd, Hickory Corners, MI 49060.
