Statue of Linnaeus at the Chicago Botanical Gardens

What could be more appropriate that this statue of the Linnaeus father of  plant taxonomy kneeling in the garden at the Chicago Botanical Garden?

With over 385 acres and three garden islands, the garden is a sight to behold.  My friend Linda and I took a quick tour of the gardens and even stopped to dine in the garden cafe which offered a tasty lunch.

Captivated by the variety of the garden, the only problem we had was not enough time to see and do and do it all.

The garden began as a flower and horticultural show hosted by the Chicago Horticultural Society which was founded in 1890.

Ground was broke for the  garden in 1965 and opened in 1972.  Today the garden is overseen by a public-private partnership. It is owned by the Forest Preserve District of Cook County and operated by the Chicago Horticultural Society. The Chicago Botanic Garden is located at 1000 Lake Cook Road, Glencoe, IL 60022.  For more information, call (847) 835-5440 or log onto http://www.chicagobotanic.org/info/.
