Corny the mascot at the Corn Crib stadium greets visitors

What is more American than corn and baseball? In central Illinois both are king, with this baseball stadium located in Bloomington/Normal is right in the heart of the corn belt. This location makes the name of the team that plays there, the Normal Corn Belters just right.

I visited the stadium this past weekend to help with an American Heart Association healthy kids event and was impressed with the atmosphere and wide open space of the Corn Crib.

Being married to a farmer, our corn cribs aren’t near so pretty so it was fun seeing “Corny” the mascot greet both little and “big” kids alike that paused to have their picture taken with him.

The emphasis of the evening was to encourage healthy practices for children and families as a whole. A brisk game of baseball, or a chance to play as a family fit the bill perfectly.

The Corn Crib is located at 1000 W. Raab Rd., Normal, IL 61761. The Corn Crib offers tours of the stadium and have several more games planned this summer. For more information about the Corn Crib and the Normal Corn Belters, call (309) 454-2255.
