American Harvest, farm to fork at it’s best

American Harvest may not ring a bell, but Augie’s Front Burner certainly will.  American Harvest is on the west side of Springfield and is owned by the same family that has the famous downtown Augie’s restaurant.  While the menus and atmospheres are different, the same great quality and attention to detail are not.  I had dined at American Harvest a few years ago when they offered a farm to fork dinner option and enjoyed it immensely. While working on the local restaurant story for Senior News &Times, Visit Springfield’s Jeff Berg took me on a local food tour and I had the opportunity to try some amazing potato gnocchi and some spinach fettuccini.

The food was amazing, simply amazing.  I forced myself not to gorge, but I admit it was hard to do!

Maybe the food was so good because at American Harvest it is their goal to offer their guests a dining experience that uses only the freshest ingredients, sourced from local farmers right here in Illinois. Being married to a farmer myself, that is something I appreciate.

Much of their food comes from the local Rolling Meadows farm and they use local greens as well.

While dining I learned that they offer an amazing Sunday Brunch and that is on my list of to do’s.  If looking for something local and wonderful, keep American Harvest in mind, I know I will.  Log onto http://www.americanharvesteatery.com/ for details.
