Timothy Bishop of the Baker City Tourism was able to secure me some of the special treats that Jennifer Mowe made on the Sunday I was in Baker City. Yum! Yum! Yum!
When we arrived to take a look at this really cute shop, there was a line out the door and I would have suffered injury if I would have tried to wend may way up the line. As it was, I told the patrons, I only wanted to go in and take a picture or two, then sure I was not trying to wrestle my way to the front of the line they let me in!
Two ladies enjoying early Sunday morning treats and coffee raised their coffee for a photo shoot. I was impressed because they both also had Illinois connections and actually had an idea where Virden, Illinois is.
The Sweet Wife Baking is wonderful and Jennifer Mowe, who is a former professional basket ball player who played for the Portland Fire and in Poland and China, opened her shop in 2010. While she mainly offers cakes, specialty brownies, scones, muffins, cookies, cupcakes and more the store is only open for retail traffic on Sunday, a very special day indeed. Thus the crowd beating a path to get the goods while they are still there!
Recently coming off a business of the year award, Jennifer and her husband Loran Joseph work hard offering up delectable sweet treats to Baker City and beyond. Loran is Baker City born and bred and the couple came back to this historic town for a slower pace and to raise their family.
I was excited to get to meet Jennifer and sample her wares. A visit to Baker City would not be complete without a stop at this sweet shoppe! You can find more about them on their Facebook page.
