Fun and food at the Dash-In

When leaving the Botanical Conservatory, we asked about a good place for lunch. We were told the Dash-In was a bright spot in town and they were right.  We headed down the road a couple of blocks and this iconic diner/pub was what we found.  When trying to decide what to order, we asked what the local favorite was and learned that the grilled cheese and tomato soup were hot items.  That made it a no brainer, it was WONDERFUL!

The Dash In has been around for a while.  They opened in  August of 1994 and were originally located across the street from its current location on Calhoun Street.  One the website they state, “We open at 7 a.m. Monday thru Friday to serve a fabulous breakfast, lunch and dinner, complimented with an array of specialty hot and cold coffee drinks using locally roasted Old Crown Coffee. We serve a large selection of craft beer, 23 rotating taps and over 50 craft beers in the bottle. Saturday we open at 9 a.m. for brunch, featuring eggs benedicts, omelets, and biscuits n gravy. Monday thru Thursday, we are open until 11 p.m., Friday and Saturday, we are open till 1 a.m. with an expanded dinner menu, then followed by our late night menu. We also offer a wide array of original baked goods. Cheesecake, creme brulee and bread pudding are always on the menu with a varied array of bars and cookies.”

The scratch made tomato soup and crusty grilled cheese was rib sticking, in fact so much that we were not able to split the dessert we had our heart set on.  While our heart said yes, our stomach said no.  On our walk from the Conservatory we saw a lot of public art that made the walk extra enjoyable and there was quite a bit of art in the diner as well.  On a shelf were a variety of board games so it is clear this is a place it is okay to sit a spell, sit coffee or beer whatever is your cup de jour!

Staff was wonderful, food was good and we were full, a successful luncheon in my book. Thank you receptionist at the Conservatory for a great recommendation.  More and more these days, I am asking locals where to eat rather than just stopping anywhere, so far, they have steered me right!  For more information about this fun place, log onto http://thedash-in.com/.
