Beasley’s Orchard, a place for family fun

On a press trip to Hendricks County, I got the chance along with a group of writers to visit Beasley’s Orchard.  Located in Danville, Indiana, this fun place had me at the hay ride, barn and best of all for this farm girl, a chance to shoot apples out of a cannon!  Yes, I said, shoot apples out of a cannon!

This is a family orchard and Calvin Beasley is a 3rd generation owner.  This young man has been adding in lots of family fun activities like a corn maze in the shape of the Minions, hay rides, festivals and apple canons!

In October, this fun Orchard shepherds between 7000 to 8000 school kids around the farm.  The beautiful post Civil War peg and beam barn is a stunner both inside and out. For those like me, that is enamored with old iron, there is the first apple grader they ever used, along with other items outside and neat signs etc. inside to fill the need of the most enthusiastic farm antique lover.

When I walked into the barn I heard the wonderful music of Loretta Lynn and thought, “I’m home!”

In the loft that the family added recently using Indiana Native hardwoods, they hold meetings, birthdays, showers and all types of celebrations.  While one half of the barn serves as the market area, the other half is the packing house and the cider press area.  While there we got a chance to sample some of this wonderful cider and it was easy to see why it is award winning.

Most activities will be winding up quickly, yet they do have a Christmas event on the weekends bookending Thanksgiving. What a great way to shoo in the Holdiay Season.  If I lived closer, I’d be heading over with my grandkids to get a picture with Santa, and if they were still up and running, shoot an apple or two high in the sky!
