Nic’s Steakhouse & Pub, a night away

Note, this venue is now closed.

We had been stuck at home for days.  Between winter weather and a bout of flu, I was raring to go when we headed for the Minneapolis Moline tractor tours last Friday.  On the way home, we wound our way through Hillsboro and stopped at the amazing Nic’s Steakhouse. A very generous editor had got me a gift certificate and this opened up a chance to try out this new place we had never been.  The restaurant is a former church offers an amazing view while dining with original stained glass windows in both the restaurant part of the diner and in the bar area.

These stained glass windows from the old church still remain.

One of my favorite items in the former church is the wonderful bell that is on display.  “Lots of people want to buy that,” our waitress said, adding it was not for sale.

After perusing the menu, we had the special, a portabella ribeye.  Service and food were both good and the atmosphere was great. We dined early and were the only ones in the dining room so it was like an amazing romantic dinner for just the two of us.  Others were coming in as we left.

Downstairs is Nic’s Smokehouse a BBQ diner.  We could see the smoker out back when we went out to park.

It is nice to find a restaurant that is not a chain in a cool atmosphere.  We will be back!  Located on Broadway, parking is off to the side.
