Gasconade Hills Resort a Route 66 Getaway

Gasconade Hlls Resort

Gasconade Hills Resort is one of the oldest Route 66 locations still in operation. Located just one mile of the historic Route, Keith and I stayed in a camper on a hosted visit at this wonderful resort during a visit to Pulaski County Missouri.

Check in!

Owned by Stephanie and Christian Chatterjee, the location is idyllic.  Our first view was of the on-site convenience store where we checked in.  Stephanie took one look at my 6’3″ husband and warned him that the shower may be a bit tight, but we managed just fine.  She gave us our keys and we headed to the neat as a pin camper, one of four that can be rented.

The Chatterjee’s also provided linens for us although campers usually have to bring these along when renting a camper.  I was amazed by how much sleeping space is available in the camper space.  There was a bedroom and two bunk bed options which would have fit our seven and eight-year old grand kids perfectly if they would have been along.  In fact, I really thought about how perfect this resort was for family trips. There is a pool, camp fire pits and picnic tables at each site. The grand kids would have loved to roast marshmallows after a swim in the pool, hear stories, then call it a day. Gasconade Hills Resort is the perfect grandparent grandchild getaway!

Our stay

We unpacked and went into town for a great meal at Café Korea, then came back and drove around for a quick look at the cool resort. You can bring cooking utensils and cook in the camper if you desire, or even over an open fire.  For us, it was all about checking out all the options that Pulaski County Missouri had to offer, but you could literally check into Gasconade Hills Resort and never even leave the site, there is enough there to keep you busy.

The lovely Gasconade River that the resort is named after.

With the quiet woods around us, we slept like babies, tucked into the Ozark Hills.  We were to take a canoe ride the next morning, but the heat prevented me from heading down the river. I will do a float when I come in September for Cow Days. Sadly, I can’t tolerate the extreme temperatures and Keith didn’t seem up to paddling me back if I fainted on him mid-stream!  We did take a walk down to the Gasconade River the next morning and I admired the clear as glass beauty of the water.

Gasconade Hills Resort is a marvelous family place that offers a variety of choices of lodging.  Right along historic Route 66, visitors can choose between 16 rustic cabins (these look awesome, I looked at pictures online and Keith and I drove by some of them). There are also 18 RV sites and plenty of tent sites and of course, the campers!

The resort has an on-site convenience store, large pool, river access, camp shower facilities, and as mentioned before, the  fire pits and picnic tables at each site. You can book a float, canoe ride, or come and fish along the river.  They say there is excellent Small Mouth Bass fishing opportunities in the Gasconade!

Thank you Stephanie and Christian for a wonderful stay!  Keep Gasconade Hills Resort in mind if heading Pulaski County Missouri direction.  I can’t imagine the beauty of the area come fall!
