Bicycle Fun

No, its not New Years and I’m not reading off any resolutions, but lately I have been trying to live healthier.  Maybe it is the age thing.  First I started out walking, then about a month ago I got a bike and since then I’ve been having bicycle fun!

What fun!  I keep my bike in town at my mom’s (daughter, husband and mother’s idea, they see me in a ditch in the country).  At first I balked wanting to ride the rural roads, but lately with so many things happening in the news there is a bit of a safety concern riding in the middle of nowhere which angers me, but that is a whole other topic.

Anyway, I had no idea what freedom I would find getting on the bike and flying around town.

I find I am reliving a bit of my youth as I glide past school and square and remember friends and family and things from my past. Best of all though is just the sheer joy of moving and pushing my body into motion.  Not that I work that hard.  My bike is no mountain bike, it is a cruiser, but it is the right speed for me and I am getting the hang of it after YEARS of not being behind the bike seat.

The new police memorial is one of the new things I noticed by bike.

So, what have been my favorite things?

The dog howling in chorus with the train whistle.

The decorated pumpkins and gourds in the subdivision I didn’t even know was there.

The barn behind the house I had never seen.

The “No trespassing sign and fence” making me wonder.

Flying down the hill way too fast.

Having enough pedal power to make it up the hill.

Riding past people walking their dogs.

Beautiful porches.

Alleys.

The new police memorial.

Reacquainting myself with streets I had forgotten.

If you haven’t been on a bike lately, treat yourself and have some bicycle fun!  It’s good for the heart and good for the soul.
