Holiday Lights at the St. Louis Zoo

Holiday lights

This week I went with my daughter and grandkids to “The Zoo at night what a beautiful sight” exhibit. The entire St. Louis Zoo was filled with over one million colorful holiday lights offering a chance to walk around outdoors and enjoy a bit of Christmas magic! The event will be held from 5-8:30 p.m. Nov. 27-Jan. 2.

Plan Ahead

You don’t just show up, you have to make arrangements on line for a certain day and time slot. This ensures that a minimum number of people (all wearing masks) will be touring in small groups. Once there, there is the usual six feet distance rule. All transactions will be cashless, so be sure to bring a debit or credit card if you want to partake in the fun!

We did it all!

We took advantage of almost everything the Wild Lights had to offer. Choosing hot chocolate, we roasted marshmallows over a campfire, making s’mores. We rode the carousel. I rode the White Rhino, while most of the animals were quite striking I was not taken with the snakes next to me!

During our visit, we all loved the visit to the Penguin and Puffin Coast. I must say, these little birds are quite captivating. The insect house was also open. Bugs don’t bother me, just don’t hook me up with any snakes or rodents! The only item we missed was the 4D Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Theater. I didn’t see that until afterwards in the brochure. While we didn’t shop, if you buy anything during this time, they are offering 10% off!

That was fine though, we did enough. For the $12.00 adult entry fee, (that my daughter graciously bought me) I was quite taken with al they have to see and do. If you are a zoo member cost is less.

The Creativity!

The best thing besides just doing something with the family and feeling like this was a normal Christmas event, was how beautiful the lights are. The staff was so creative. We walked through icicles in Icicle Alley, Twinkle Tunnel where you walked through a million lights and more. My favorite though was perhaps when you first walk in and see an amazing lit up ornament. Falala Flamingo Row was also quite lovely as well. I admit to just being quite taken with the creativity it took to put this all together! \

It was easy to park, not crowded, and just plain fun. Most years are so crazy busy, that we just rush from one holiday activity to another. This year I know has not been a dream year, but I will say, when something special comes together, I savor it, I remember it, and I appreciate it like never before.

A new memory for the books!
