Peases still pleases at it’s new location.
For years I have stopped at Peases Candy Shoppes. For years I stopped at the Laurel location in Springfield. I would buy penny candy and put it in paper bags for the kids when they were young. Later I would buy candy apples for my husband Keith when he was in the fields.
Sometimes when they were lucky, I would bring home a chocolate egg filled with candy for Easter. Yes, Peases has been a family tradition for years. But I had never seen Peases with all the glitz and glamour before a visit the relatively new westside location Peases at Bunn Gourmet.
The website explains all the wonderful things this new location has to offer. I stopped by during a visit for a story I am worked on for Senior News & Times about local places to eat. We got dessert during the Illinois State Fair. I visited with Jeff Berg of Visit Springfield. He and I were blown away by the magnitude of the site. You can pretty much do it all!
On the website they state, ” BUNN Gourmet will be a destination spot for Springfield shoppers to enjoy a variety of unique experiences. Our guests will be able to watch candy being made in our chocolate theatre, enjoy a great espresso drink, savor a piece of gourmet chocolate or bring the children in for a selection of their favorite sweet treats. On a chilly day, guests can enjoy a great cup of coffee or a glass of interesting wine in front of a warm fireplace. An outdoor patio will set the stage for lingering conversations over a great cup of coffee or ice-cold craft beer in the summer. “
I was pretty impressed with my piece of chocolate and a sign saying over the weekend there was live music. Eat, have some dessert, a glass of wine and listen, sounds good to me!
