Christmas at the Whitehouse at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum

Yesterday, I took a walk through the holiday exhibit, “Christmas at the Whitehouse” while visiting the museum.  The exhibit will be on display until the New Year.  I enjoyed looking into the past at White House moments.  There is a very lovely gold-plated desk clock on display that was given to President Eisenhower by his cabinet.  A very distinct ornament that was in the Blue Room during the Bush White House features the President’s home state of Texas with the Alamo, a longhorn, and much more.  Other items on display include a sketch of a holiday dress by a designer for Mrs. Clinton, a menorah given to President Clinton to represent all Americans in celebration of Hanukkah by the District of Columbia Jewish Community Center and much more.  My favorite ornament was the dancing Abe given to the Clintons in 1999.

Besides the items, there are also two films.  One is very touching because it depicts the last Christmas before President Kennedy’s assassination, and the other is light-hearted showing the Bush Whitehouse through the eyes of their Scotty dog.

This is a quick walk through exhibit that you will want to include in your holiday plans if in downtown Springfield!
