Review of book Escape from Dachau
I am an avid reader, and I am always looking for books to read while on the road. I read this one on my IPad while traveling to Historic Days in Penfield, a tractor show. Once I crawled into bed for the night, I consumed this book.
I received this book to review. I read it overnight. The book is not very long, but this is a powerful story. Based on the true story written by Kathe Mueller Slonim about her family’s harrowing experience during WWII and their escape from Germany.
The book tells the late Kathe Slonim’s story of her family’s flight from Nazi Germany. Her father, a respected businessman was arrested and taken to Dachau. His cousin, Max Immanuel, with escape plans of his own risked his life to help Kathe’s father get out of Dachau on a cold rainy night in December 1938.
The book also shares the story of Jews in Germany. Through rumors, and the blame game, the Jewish people became the scape goat for anything wrong with the German public. People that once lived side by side turn to hate. Neighbors became spies and turncoats during this harrowing time.
Escape from Dachau is Riveting
This book is about heroes, and the lives of ordinary people. Events that the Mueller family never believed could happen turned their world upside down. Only 129 pages, this is a quick read that will leave you amazed, horrified, and uplifted all at the same time. If you like history, you will love, Escape From Dachau! If you are a WWII history book, you will also enjoy my review of The Last Ride of the Valkyres.
