It’s All About the People
My friend Sara Broers is always saying, “Know your people”. When writing for an audience she shares you need to know just who it is you are writing for. For me, that is clear, anyone that loves the backroads, agriculture, history, and the story that both places and people have to share are mine! Recently husband Keith and I traveled to Gordyville, Illinois for the annual Mid-West Ag Expo, there I saw lots of “my people!”.
After subzero temperatures and a mini-ice storm, it was worth traveling through the shrouded fog and mist to the show. We were not the only ones that thought that! The parking lot was full. Keith dropped me off (thank you husband!) and he circled the grounds several times until finally finding a spot.
Antique Tractor Fans
At the show I saw several of the I & I Antique Tractor Club members and friends. Max Armstrong, Russel Buhr, Ed Winkleman and Chris Elliott just to name a few. Russel was set up with the brand new off the press 2023 Half Century of Progress Show Book. With more pictures than ever and lots of stories, the book is available on the Half Century website. Russel and I got to talk about the book on WITY Radio what fun!
I also got to meet Amanda Hobbs the new owner of the children’s magazine Little Green. She was set up with Friends of Green at the show. Jane Aumann and I have written about the “little tractors” for years and were excited that she decided to continue what Richard and Carol Hain of Green Magazine started 17 years ago. This magazine is all about sharing the love of antique tractors with the younger generation. To contact Amanda about getting a subscription to Little Green, here email is littlegreenmag@gmail.com!
“Your people”
I hope that you have found “your people”, those that share interests and passion in the things you love. We saw several folks we haven’t met up with for quite some time. Some had great news, others recent tragedy’s that broke our hearts. God lifts us all up in times of crisis, and I pray for those that have had loss and sadness over this cold January. Spending time with those of like minds helps lift the burden and lighten the heart.
Tell me about what makes your heart sing and pulls you, who are “your people”?
