Village Guest Suites Amana, Iowa

Village Guest Suites

This past Friday night, we were invited to stay at the Village Guest Suites in Amana, Iowa. (This stay was paid for by the Amana Colonies Visitor’s Bureau.) Owned by Virginia and Alan Dubberke this beautiful building is located in Main Amana on a back street. Virginia greeted us wearing a mask and showed us our accommodations.

Keith and I loved that they offer a private, isolated and luxurious stay.

History

The Amana Colonies are seven villages on 26,000 acres. The villages consist of: Amana, East Amana, High Amana, Middle Amana, South Amana, West Amana, and Homestead. The Village Guest Suites are in a historic 1865 communal residence and zimmershop. A zimmershop was a carpenter shop!

“We moved here in 1999,” Virginia said. “The house had been in the same family all those years. I worked at the General Store, then the Ox Yoke Inn. I thought, this is big enough to be a B&B.”

The Village Guest Suites offers three suites even though currently during COVID-19 she is only opening two of them up since one is is close proximity to another.

Accomodations

The Village Guest Suites is within walking distance of the Amana Heritage Museum and shops. That is one of the advantages, the location. We walked to the Ronneburg for dinner and past a very cool Windmill House that sits nearby.

The backyard deck is wonderful surprise. Loaded with flowers and an array of sitting places we enjoyed sitting on the back porch and just visiting after dinner Friday evening.

The Suite itself is lovely. Decorated in a lovely cottage style, there is a cool fireplace in the sitting area. Ample seating selections abound. There is also a nice dining table so if you choose to bring a meal in, or sit and play cards you have that option.

The bedroom is trimmed out in beautiful oak furniture with a sleigh bed and dresser. There again is sitting space. The bath even had a Jacuzzi tub! What a wonderful place for a romantic getaway.

To my husband’s liking was flat screen TV with multiple channels!

Adjustments for COVID-19

Breakfast was not available during COVID-19. We took advantage of the wonderful breakfast at the Ronneburg instead. Virginia said she waits 72 hours to clean. We felt completely safe during this isolated stay.

Perfect Stay

If you are looking for a great private room near all the activities this is the place to be. Prices are also great. The rate is $95 a night with breakfast and $80 without. There is a $10 charge for each additional guest.

Thank you Alan and Virginia and Amana Colonies Visitor’s Bureau for having us! We loved our stay at the Village Guest Suites and would love to come back again! Call 319-622-3990 for details!
