One of my favorite songs is Willie Nelson’s Blue Skies. The lyrics, “Blue skies smilin’ at me; Nothin’ but blue skies do I see..” are apt for my recent visit to beautiful Blue Sky Vineyard, where the setting is lovely, the food is sublime, the wine amazing and the day I was there, the over the view over the vines was filled with blue skies!
My friend Rose and I headed to Blue Sky from after our trip to the Shawnee Bluff Canopy Tour. Down the road just a short way, they were the perfect stop for a relaxing lunch consisting of a Chicken Croissant sandwich and a glass of Moscato. Young Josh that was working the day we were there and he shared that Blue Sky, “Opened in 2005 and planted vines in 2001.”
“We won Best of Show for our Chambourcin Reserve for the Illinois State Fair competition and had the best red in the Mid America Competition,” Josh said.
Besides the fine wine, part of the joy of being at Blue Sky is just the ambience. It is easy to see once viewing heavy wooden doors, Tuscan architecture, lovely tiles and amazing view how Blue Sky can advertise that they offer, “The Romance of Italy in the Hills of Southern Illinois.”
There is something going on almost every weekend and this is a prime setting for weddings and other events.
