Beautiful Salina, Kansas

Salina

Salina Kansas was home to the Kanza Indians, and is the westernmost town on the Smokey River Trail. Salina is where the Red Power Winter Show was held. While there, my husband Keith and I explored this fair city and found a lot to love. The winter show was held at the Hilton Garden Inn, a great place that accommodated our collector crowd. It was fun seeing the hotel with Farmall tractors parked outside.

The Art

Downtown Salina had some beautiful art. The Salina Murals, a Self-Guided Tour offers 30 murals in Salina! One of the most amazing is the Mural at the Mill by Guido van Helten. I was also quite taken by the Lineman by Chris Stain, and his Pastures of Plenty which references the agricultural past.

Pastures of Plenty

Besides the mural trail, there is also a sculpture tour as well. This is a walking tour and while downtown, we walked past several of the beautiful sculptures. This changes each spring as artists from across the country submit work to be considered. We liked them all, but our favorite was Engine Failure. We loved the use of engine parts.!

Museums

While in town we visited the Smokey Hills Museum, a fun museum covering the history of the area. We took a tour of the Garage Museum. The Garage contains both classic and custom cars, interactive exhibits. This was so well done, we loved it.

This jeep was one of our favorites.

Keith’s heart beat a little faster when we stopped in the Central Kansas Fly Wheeler Yesteryear Musem, An Agricultural and Living History Experience. The museum features horse and tractor drawn implements from the 1800’s to early 1900’s. Our friend Howard Raymond went along, and I snapped a picture of him and Keith.

While in town we enjoyed dining at the famous Cozy Inn which gets voted World’s Best burgers year after year. We loved the Blue Skye Brewery, and Tuscon’s Steakhouse and Saloon and Grill. We especially enjoyed Martinelli’s Little Italy!

Our visit was filled with tours of the Great Plains and Kubota factories, fun with our Red Power Friends and more. There is a lot to see and do in beautiful Salina. Have you been?
