The New Year’s Eve Angel

Lately I have been having dreams that I have lost my car in the parking lot. This has happened twice in the last month. While I am not known for my directional abilities, I usually watch carefully where I park so I am not wondering aimlessly looking for my vehicle. Today on New Year’s Eve, I think an angel came to my rescue.

Lunch with a friend

My friend Jane Aumann and I meet every holiday season for Christmas lunch. Today we went to the wonderful Bella Roma in Edinburg. This rounded out my holiday celebrations for 2024!

I ate too much pasta, and all my dessert. Perhaps I was in a carb coma when I parked outside of the Walmart.

The Encounter

My mom called requesting an item from Walmart before I headed home. I parked almost center near a cart storage. I went in, found what she wanted, did the self-checkout, and whoosh! I was out like a flash. I headed for where I thought my car was, but nope, it wasn’t there. My recent nightmares were coming true.

A gentleman saw me looking rather bewildered. He said, “Lost it?” I told him I guess I did. He told me to take out my keys and try honking. No such luck.

He said, “Wait a minute, I will help you look.” It was busy, drizzling, cold and damp, and New Year’s Eve. I am sure he had much better things to do, but he took time to help me search. He said to take out my key again and hit the panic button. Lo and behold, there Darth Vader, my black Toyota Highlander was two rows over.

I thanked him as I hightailed it to my car in the freezing lot, unsure whether I had just spoke to a really nice gentleman, or an angel. He may not have been wearing wings, but he surely had on a halo taking time out of his busy schedule to help me find my way. Keep your eyes peeled, and maybe you too will meet an angel wondering around in a Walmart parking lot, or cross paths at another time when you need them the most.
