The 1st Day of Christmas -Gifts From Ann Arbor – A Stay at the Graduate!

Today it’s December 1st and I am calling it the first day of Christmas just like the classic Christmas song, The Tweleve Days of Christmas. For your true love, you may want to consider a stay at the classy Graduate Hotel.  Traveling here on a hosted trip I have had a chance to see how lovely this beautiful hotel is.  All decked out for Christmas, this lovely inn has holiday and gift giving written all over it!

Located in Ann Arbor, a town that is home the the University of Michigan, the hotel is located near campus, thus the theme.  While there are many references to college life, its all about life after college and the wonderful amenities that come after graduation.  Rooms are filled with lovely art work, eclectic furniture and a cool industrial type of bathroom.  On their website they say it best, “Welcome back to the glory days of college life, with a few of the new comforts you probably didn’t have the first time around.”

With rates between $150 to $200, and specials that slash prices, this is a great gift for your beloved or a girls getaway.  The hotel has a cozy club feel with hand painted mosaic patterns, a wide planked floor and in the lobby, a 40 foot communal wood table that was my favorite place in the hotel.  The table says sit down, play a game and lets chat!

Located at 615 East Huron Street, Ann Arbor, Michigan, the phone number is 734-769-2200.  The hotel has the neat Allen Ramsey Supper Club onsite or in the morning you can also get a quick to go item or take it and eat at the plank table.  This town is a town that gives back to the local community, I was excited to see a sign when I bought a tea and bagel for breakfast that during November, 50% of their profits were going to a local group to help eliminate hunger.

This type of social giving I have seen all over Ann Arbor during my trip to this lovely town.  The Graduate Hotel is  near downtown Ann Arbor which is filled with shops, tons of restaurants and offers a lively night life.

Only four hours north of Chicago, you can easily reach this sohpishticated Midwest destination by plane, a nice drive, or take the Amtrak!  While Ann Arbor has all the amenities of a big city, it is a slower, charming scene that feels more Main Street that urban. Don’t just take this farm girls word for it, check it out yourself!img_2428
