Burrowing In!

Are you ready for burrowing in when the cold weather hits? This is the time to be planning future trips, but also to take a step back, spend time with family, and be thankful. Stay busy to keep your spirits up during the dark winter days. What do you need when the winter wind comes calling?

The basics!

Do you have a cuddly blanket to curl up with, one that is long enough to cover your feet? Burrowing in requires a comfy chair with a good Television view. Is the remote handy, and have you chose your channel lineup for the chilly weather. I have a friend that comes to visit, and we have a routine. Nachos for dinner and wine and popcorn for a Lifetime, or romantic movie. Sometimes we step it up a notch and choose a mystery. Planning movie nights with friends and staying in can be perfect when the temperature is subzero.

Is your playlist ready for dancing in the kitchen or have you found your favorite YouTube aerobics for keeping in shape? I love Paul Eugene and his Senior aerobics! Games and fun activities can keep the brain and body sharp.

Make the stops.

Before burrowing in, hit the library or bookstore for a great read in! Stock up on snacks, and basics so if the weather really takes a dive you are prepared. Hot chocolate, peppermint schnapps, full freezer, the makings for chili all call my name during that time between the holidays, and the winter thaw! Like Santa, make a list and check it twice so you can be snuggly and nice.

The have to’s!

This is the time of year to check the smoke alarm and CO2 detector batteries, take a radon test, or if you have a mitigation system, make sure it’s working. Winterize the house, change the furnace filters, clean out the refrigerator and cupboards and get rid of expired items. Ensure the oven is clean and ready for baking and that the supplies for delectable cookies are on hand. Depending on your medical needs, ensure medicine has been renewed and is ready in case you can’t get to the pharmacy.

With the have to do’s done, you are ready for fun.

Downtime.

We all run at a breakneck speed during the other three seasons trying to fit all of the nice weather activities into our already too busy schedules. Now, we have time to sit back, reflect, and do a little nothing. Recharge. Dream. Rest. That is what the dead of winter is for and what burrowing in time is all about! I plan to take a note from my farm cat Charlie and take a winter’s nap!
