gift guide

Sometimes it is fun to come up with ideas for a gift guide. Besides of course an ultimate trip, I have a few ideas. I wanted to share my top ideas for the 2022 holiday season. I will update this as the season progresses. What fun it is to shop and gather the perfect gift for loved ones and friends! Let me know your thoughts about my 2022 holiday gift guide!

Books for Travel and the Road.

I always need to have a book in my hand I especially like to have a book with me when I travel. Some books are perfect for travel planning like Sara Broer’s 100 Things to Do in Iowa Before You Die. Sara hits fun places to stop in Iowa, but best of all is her suggested itinerary in the back of the book. You don’t have to plan, just follow her guidelines and voila, Iowa here you come.

Another neat travel book is Bill Cleven’s The Ultimate American Music Bucket List. This is a book about favorite places to travel to find where the music took place. I have loved pouring through this book. It is fun seeing all the places I have been and noting those I have not.

These are relatively new books. Then there are also fiction books, that is what I like to read before bed or when on the road. Peril on the Peninsula is Theresa Carter Goodrich’s first fiction book. I love mysteries and she wrote a page turner with a neat character Alex Paige that is a recent cancer survivor just getting back in the travel writer game. Previously an investigative journalist, she needs all her skills when she is in the thick of things on her travel journey.

My latest read.

Rick Shaw wrote his first sci-fi thriller New Perspectives. The book tells the story of a Diver that finds his way into a new realm where life is slower, but they have to deal with a dangerous opponent. Rick does a good job of keeping the reader’s attention making the story believable with both the Science Fiction aspect, and the romantic liaison.

Looking for a bit of WWII history? Diplomats & Admirals is a new book by Dale A. Jenkins, who is a former US Navy officer and staff director at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York. In his book he covers the events from July 1941 to June 1942 telling the story through the leaders that lived the events. The tagline for this riveting storyline is “From failed negotiations and tragic misjudgments to powerful leaders and historic deeds. The untold story of the U.S. Navy’s Victories at coral Sea and Midway recounts the escalating confrontation of diplomats on opposite shores of the Pacific Ocean prior and during World War II.

All these books make great gifts for the reader or traveler on your list!

Baking Fun!

Father Dominic Garramone, known as, “The Bread Monk of Public Television” has a 2nd edition of his book, Baking Secrets from the Bread Monk, along with his great book, Breakfast Breads & Sweet Treats. He was the host of the PBS cooking show “Breaking Bread with Father Dominic” from 1999 to 2001. This famous Father is from nearby Peoria, Illinois. His Baking Secrets book, shares wonderful tips and tricks for baking, which I definitely need! I have had a great time perusing recipes in the Breakfast Breads book and can’t wait to give a few a try over the holidays! This would make anyone that likes to cook a great present. Those from the Midwest will especially love his Midwestern roots! His books can be found anywhere books are sold!

Father Dominic Garramone’s, OSB’s wonderful baking books!

Medical Finds

Recently I received My Medic’s elevated first aid kit Myfak to review. It is perfect for travel and is packed with over 100 first aid kit supplies. With a color-coded organizer it contains everything I could need in case of an accident, it covers burns, sports accidents, outdoor emergencies too. I’m covered for topical airway issues, hydration problems, fractures and more. This would make a great gift for any traveler, or farmer for the combine!

My Medic kit I keep in my car!

Another medical find is the LifeSafe Technolgies Fire Extinguisher that was sent to me for review. I have it in my kitchen. I love the fact that it is small and light weight! So many fire extinguishers are too heavy to lift and use. What a perfect travel or safety present!
